Marisse Alvarez-Sy has been accepting pastry orders – cakes, cookies and breads – at home for several years.
Her husband, Allan Francis, has long encouraged her to open a bakeshop. Marisse, who grew up in a family who owned Celebrity Bakeshop and Pan y Pasteles, was initially hesitant and waited for the perfect timing to open her very first bakeshop.
That perfect timing happened when they saw the open-spaced and lush garden of 32 Sanson, a 3.2-hectare property being developed by Rockwell Land in Lahug, Cebu City. The couple were initially looking for a space where they can open a restaurant.
“When my husband saw the space beside the pool, he told me ‘What a perfect place for a bakeshop!’ There was this positive feeling about the place and I knew this is it,” shared Marisse during the official opening of Marisse Patisserie.
Marisse grew up in a family who love to bake, cook and eat. Her parents were among the frontrunners of Montebello Villa Hotel and Costabella Tropical Beach Hotel. Her bakeshop experience started in her childhood when summer days were spent as an “intern” for her parents’ bakeshop. History has repeated itself as her youngest daughter, Reesha, is now serving as Marisse Patisserie’s youngest employee greeting customers with a sweet smile and courteous voice. It was a conscious decision for Marisse to open her bakeshop in a non-commercial location as she wanted a space where customers feel relaxed, away from the pressure of the daily work grind. Its shabby chic theme provides the kind of atmosphere where people can sit down and simply enjoy good, homemade pastries and breads.
At Marisse Patisserie, everything is made from scratch. Her recipes were developed from spending countless hours in the kitchen with her family – husband Allan Francis and children Ria, Francis Louis, and Reesha – as her testers.
Enjoy Marisse’s pecado mortal (moist chocolate cake with chocolate ganache and cashew brittle) with a cup of brewed coffee sourced from Philippine provinces. And.. do not leave the patisserie without a bite of her specialty bars, brownies and cheescakes! The list includes: ube white chocolate, oreo cream cheese, original brownie, walnut brownie, oatmeal guava cheesecake, oatmeal nutella, oatmeal fudge bar and oatmeal mango. Marisse also recommends the mango pistachio cake, guava cake and frozen brazo mercedez — created by expert hands and perfected by the heart of a passionate baker. Marisse said their family feels blessed to be located in 32 Sanson by Rockwell which is composed of a team of young and forward-looking professionals. “Knowing Rockwell’s reputation as a developer, I’m sure they paid attention to the little details. When they came to Cebu, I think that they made sure that they partner with establishments that will be identified along with them. It was a breeze working with them and we feel very blessed that Rockwell chose us to have our shop here,” said Marisse.
Marisse Patisserie is open Tuesdays to Sundays from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Also located inside 32 Sanson by Rockwell is Kayu Kitchen + Bar, which is also owned by the Alvarez-Sy couple with their son, Francis Louis or Izzy, as the chef. Marisse Patisserie is located at 32 Sanson by Rockwell in 32 Sanson Road, Lahug, Cebu City.
